AccountantIllinois College - Jacksonville, ILOverviewSalary Range $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 Salary/year Position Type Full Time Job Shift DayDescriptionThe Accountant will provide the Controller assistance on all financial-related tasks. The Accountant assists in ensuring the accounting and financial processes of the College are up to standard and ensures accurate financial reporting and control.Essential Functions:The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.Work collaboratively with budget officers to answer questions and research trendsDevelop and maintain control systems to identify and prevent discrepancies in budgets and financial statementsSupport all aspects of accounting management, including billing, vendor payments, tax forms, reporting, etc.Assist in the preparation of reports for management or regulatory bodies, including external auditorsPrepare journal entriesAssist with fixed asset management and evaluationSupervise all student workers in the Accounting Services DepartmentPrepare monthly bank reconciliations and investment reconciliationsMaintain and enforce the Purchasing and Travel polices of the CollegePrepare and analyze account reconciliationsAssist with the Purchasing Card systemPrepare daily Bookstore transactions and deposits.Prepare monthly Sales Tax returnsPrepare and review monthly capital budget and project reportsAssist with vendor management and tax reporting of 1099 forms.Prepare accounts receivable aging reports monthly and review collectability.Serve as backup for the Accounts Payable Coordinator, and Accounting AssociateQualificationsQualifications:A Bachelors degree in accounting or finance, or a Bachelors degree in business with emphasis in accounting, is requiredAt least 3 years progressively responsible experience in accounting, requiredIntercultural competency; ability to work with individuals of diverse backgroundsProfessional certification, desiredSolid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulationsUnderstanding and ability to analyze dataHigh attention to detail and problem-solving abilityDemonstrated experience in working with financial and numeric dataProficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skillsAbility to maintain confidentialityExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work some extended hours, as needed during peak times and audits
