Business Manager

Job Summary The Plant Business Manager will work with business leaders, plant managers, asset managers, internal customers, vendors and other subject matter experts to provide support and direction to optimize the company’s business objectives. This position is responsible for the preparation, analysis, consolidation, and presentation of all types of statistical data, information, trends and patterns for financial data. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain facility accounting records in accordance with GAAP and NRG policies. Direct the monthly accounting close process, including variance analysis, reforecasting, budgeting, payroll allocation, accounts payable and receivable, and year‑end audit. Prepare and review financial and operational planning, forecasting, and monthly variance analyses. Create journal entries and coordinate month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end accruals. Track, evaluate, and report on capital and major maintenance projects monthly. Use PowerSAM to create new projects, revise current projects, run economics, and submit for approvals. Communicate regularly with management and site personnel to prepare operating budgets and update forecasts. Provide accounting advice and counsel to the Plant Manager and serve as the primary accounting contact. Prepare financial reports and support the development and use of statistical and accounting information. Appraise operating results in terms of costs, budgets, trends, and earnings. Coordinate planning and forecasting activities with FP&A (FPR, SAP, PowerSAM, Plant Characteristics, and Planned Outage Schedules). Support operations through data collection, analysis, and dissemination of intelligence on financial and operational performance; produce detailed reports to support business functions. Design and implement reports, tools, and presentations that enable effective decision making. Utilize multiple data sources to collect, analyze, consolidate, and present financials (Capex, O&M, Deactivation, ARO) and convert data into actionable information. Create work orders, process invoices, and run cost reports from SAP. Own plant business processes, including all administrative policies. Identify workflow and process improvement opportunities and collaborate with functional areas to enhance productivity and efficiency. Manage and track the Plant AIP metric process. Prepare ad‑hoc reports and analyses in a clear, timely manner. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Business (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Minimum 5 years of related business experience. Accounting experience and knowledge of accounting standards and principles. Previous experience preparing and managing budgets. Advanced proficiency in standard software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Preferred Qualifications Power plant and energy industry experience. Advanced proficiency in specialized business technologies and applications (e.g., FPR, SAP, PowerSAM, PowerGADS). Additional KSAs Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations in industrial environments. Understanding of customer/client needs and focus on exceeding expectations. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and precision. Ability to perform complex, varied work and develop integrated solutions for complex business issues. Excellent communication skills, including oral and written, and the ability to listen and provide constructive feedback. Strong interpersonal skills with tact, courtesy, and professionalism. Comprehensive knowledge of NRG business practices, procedures, and principles. Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
