Quality Technician Full Time Regular Indirect Hourly Gallatin, TN, US 5 days ago Requisition ID: 1498 JOB SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE Perform dimensional inspection of components and assemblies using optical comparators, precision hand gages, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). Support Manufacturing and Quality Engineering by documenting results, identifying nonconforming products, and helping resolve measurement and process issues. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections to current engineering drawings, approved inspection plans, and work instructions. Set up and use optical comparators, micrometers, calipers, height gages, indicators, bore gages, and pin/plug gages; select methods appropriate to the feature and tolerance. Interpret dimensions, tolerances, datum references, and basic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T); seek clarification when requirements are unclear. Operate CMMs using approved programs; verify part setup and equipment readiness, review reports, and recognize suspect results. Change released programs only with authorization. Record accurate, traceable inspection results. Identify and segregate nonconforming material, promptly elevate concerns, support containment, problem solving, and rework verification. . OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Maintain accurate and detailed quality records as required by the department. Assist with the development and refinement of inspection procedures. Support continuous improvement initiatives across inspection processes and quality assurance. Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Engineering team WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is performed in inspection-lab and manufacturing settings and includes sitting, standing, close-tolerance visual inspection, and repetitive handling of components. Requires manual dexterity to position parts and use measuring equipment, and the ability to lift or transport containers weighing up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Follow site safety requirements and applicable firearms-handling procedures after required training. QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES: Demonstrated hands-on dimensional inspection experience using optical comparators, precision hand gages, and CMMs running established programs. Experience with any CMM software is acceptable. Ability to read engineering drawings and inspection instructions, interpret dimensional tolerances and basic GD&T, and apply shop mathematics and inch/metric conversions. Attention to detail, and disciplined documentation. Ability to question unusual results and distinguish potential measurement issues from product defects. Excel, and learning technical software; demonstrated problem-solving ability and a clear interest in CMM programming, metrology, and calibration responsibilities. Ability to work independently within approved procedures, communicate findings clearly, and coordinate priorities with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering. EXPERIENCE\EDUCATION: Two or more years of hands-on manufacturing dimensional inspection experience, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating the required skills. Relevant machining experience with substantial inspection responsibility is acceptable. High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training, an apprenticeship, or an associate degree in machining, manufacturing, quality, or metrology is preferred.
