Job Description

Duties will include but are not limited to: The Emergency Medicine Physician is charged with delivering the best possible care to our Veteran patients. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy and meet community standards. The Emergency Medicine Physician works within his or her privileges at all times. The Emergency Medicine Physician is expected to maintain current knowledge and skills. The physician is expected to maintain good diagnostic skills, clinical judgment, and therapeutic acumen. Has the ability to provide accurate and understandable instructions to patients. Understands the importance and is compliant with participating in patient identification and timeout processes. Has ability to recognize patient signs of physical distress and monitor the patient's condition during treatment. Alternative or collaborative duties may include, but not all-inclusive, non-clinical functions pertaining to department meetings, chart reviews and quality projects. Typically these duties are designated at the time of joining but may be assigned in the course of employment and the response to new initiatives. The Emergency Medicine Physician will be expected to add their special skills to the department. The Emergency Medicine Physician exercises corporate citizenship by serving as leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested.

Work Schedule: This position requires a variable, non-fixed schedule to support the Emergency Department's 24/7/365 operations. Physicians may be assigned to day, evening, night, weekend, holiday, and irregular shifts based on clinical need. Shifts are typically 12-hours, but may vary depending on departmental staffing requirements. In accordance with Emergency Medicine surge and high-census planning requirements, physicians may also be assigned on-call or surge-call duties when operational needs require rapid mobilization of additional Emergency Department provider coverage.
