Bankruptcy Compliance Specialist V

Responsibilities Review all bankruptcy cases filed in Colorado and other jurisdictions with nexus in Colorado. File accurate Proof of Claims with all bankruptcy courts. Monitor and enforce all Colorado bankruptcy plans approved by the federal courts. Attend and question debtors and attorneys in 341 hearings as needed to clarify the state’s position. Testify in court cases as required. Refer bankruptcy issues or compliance questions to the Attorney General’s office when necessary. Prioritize assigned cases and determine appropriate enforcement actions. Supervise three Bankruptcy Compliance Specialists and one Tax Examiner II. Provide clear description of employee responsibilities and inform employees of what is expected of them. Provide support and assistance to enable employees to complete work tasks. Ensure timely completion of work by monitoring employee activities. Provide regular feedback, conduct performance planning and appraisals, and resolve personnel issues constructively. Inspire employees to work more productively and develop their skills. Effectively manage and assign employee resources to meet production goals, including Proof of Claims filing, 341 hearings, discharge/dismissal processing, and electronic/paper mail. Provide input and assist the Compliance Specialist IVs and Tax Examiner II with their work. Timely review work submitted by the bankruptcy unit. Meet with bankruptcy attorneys regarding complex cases. Maintain knowledge of governing statutes and current bankruptcy law. Minimum Qualifications Eight (8) years of relevant experience in Bankruptcy Taxation, Bankruptcy Code, 341 Hearings, and management, OR a combination of related education and eight (8) years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of two years experience with Bankruptcy Taxation cases. Strong understanding of Bankruptcy Code and experience applying it to Colorado tax matters. Minimum of two years experience filing Bankruptcy proof of claims documents. Experience representing the Department of Revenue at 341 Hearings. Strong written communication skills. Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Fast Enterprise’s GenTax system. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and attorneys.
