Early College Advisor

Early College Advisor Full-Time, Exempt Help students see where college can take them! What if high school students could start college with a plan—not just college credits? As an Early College Advisor at Umpqua Community College, you’ll help Douglas County high school students turn dual credit and early college opportunities into a clear path toward college, career, and transfer. The Early College Advisor supports high school students, dual credit students, Expanded Options students, and Career Academy students throughout Douglas County. You’ll serve as a connection between UCC and local high schools, helping students understand their college options and create educational plans aligned with their future goals. This position regularly travels to area high schools and works closely with students, families, high school counselors and teachers, UCC faculty and staff, and community partners. THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED, LIMITED-DURATION POSITION THROUGH JUNE 30, 2028 Continued employment beyond June 30, 2028, is subject to grant funding and College needs. Serve as a regular UCC presence in Douglas County high schools, providing information and support for dual credit, Expanded Options, and Career Academy programs. Assist students, parents, counselors, and instructors with UCC admissions, registration, account access, and other college processes. Build positive relationships with high school students through mentorship, advising, and individualized support. Provide hands‑on assistance with college applications, scholarships, financial aid, career exploration, and other steps toward college enrollment. Develop educational plans and future course recommendations for dual credit and Expanded Options students, helping them understand how college coursework connects to their academic and career goals. Provide transfer advising and information to students planning to continue their education at a university, including how UCC coursework may transfer within Oregon. Maintain current knowledge of UCC degrees, certificates, programs, student activities, clubs, and support services and connect students with appropriate resources. Collaborate with UCC departments and high school partners to develop and implement recruitment strategies for specific instructional programs, including classroom presentations. Assist with planning and facilitating career exploration and college exposure events. Support Summer Melt initiatives by conducting outreach to graduating seniors regarding enrollment status, next steps, and available resources. Provide timely follow-up to students, families, school partners, and community partners through text, email, meetings, and mailings. Assist with grant‑related data collection, reporting, and other program requirements. Work collaboratively with team members to support program goals and initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Strong interest in working with high school‑aged students and supporting their educational goals. Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with diverse populations. Positive, professional, energetic, and student‑centered approach. Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate and promote events. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and follow projects through to completion. Comfortable using technology for communication, record keeping, and data management. Required Associate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with students, families, and community partners. Ability to organize, manage, and independently carry out projects and activities. Proficiency with technology used for communication, record keeping, and data management. Valid driver’s license and maintain eligibility for coverage under UCC’s vehicle insurance policy. Preferred Bachelor's degree. Experience working with high school‑aged students. Experience in a community college and/or high school setting. Experience with college access, student advising, recruitment, or transition programs. Knowledge of dual credit, Expanded Options, Career Academy, or other early college programs. Experience planning and promoting educational or career‑focused events. This position works in both UCC offices and Douglas County public schools. Regular travel throughout Douglas County is required. The position may occasionally require evening or weekend work.
