Position: PDF Annotation & Transcription Experts – Japanese
Type: Contract
Compensation: $31/hour
Location: Remote
Role Responsibilities
- Evaluate pages provided for annotation, ensuring they are in Japanese, legible, and contain real content without personal details.
- Annotate structure by identifying and bounding regions such as document titles, sections, tables, and figures, assigning each a component type and reading-order index.
- Record relationships by linking regions to their parent components, such as figures or tables.
- Transcribe text exactly as it appears, including kanji , hiragana , katakana , and handwritten content, flagging illegible regions.
- Capture page metadata, including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting.
- Review a colleague's work as a second Japanese expert, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Native fluency in Japanese , including full command of kanji , hiragana , and katakana .
- Professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, or editorial work.
- Exact character-level accuracy.
- Systematic application of taxonomy across pages.
- Comfort with unfamiliar layouts, such as vertical text and multi-column formats.
Preferred
- Experience with AI training data annotation, labeling, or bilingual evaluation.
- Skills in transcription and localization, including MTPE and OCR correction.
- Expertise in document production, typesetting, and proofreading.
- Knowledge of script and encoding, including Unicode normalization and Japanese input methods.
