Transmission and Distribution Civil Engineer - Remote (U.S.) Full-time Location: North Carolina, US (Remote or Hybrid) Compensation: USD 80,000 – 120,000 per year AECOM offers a role as a Transmission Engineer focused on engineering design for overhead transmission lines and supporting project lifecycle activities. Responsibilities Perform engineering analysis and design for overhead transmission lines, including structure loading, conductor sag/tension, foundations, and line routing. Prepare construction packages including plan & profile drawings, structure selection, material specifications, and engineering calculations. Utilize industry‑standard software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and related tools. Support project lifecycle activities such as scope development, cost estimating, scheduling, and field support. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and guidelines (NESC, ASCE, company standards). Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders (contractors, vendors, regulatory bodies). Provide engineering support during construction, responding to RFIs and performing field verifications. Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to continuous improvement of design standards. Identify and mitigate site issues such as geotechnical conditions, access and environmental constraints, and constructability challenges. Interact with client engineers and technical experts on a day‑to‑day basis. Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients. Assist with task and effort estimates for proposal support. Maintain positive working relationships with peers. Occasional travel to other AECOM locations and client sites. Participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc., as necessary. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field plus 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination. Understanding of transmission line design principles (loading criteria, structural analysis, conductor behavior, foundations). Experience with CAD or engineering design tools; familiarity with PLS-CADD strongly preferred. Preferred Qualifications Working toward Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience with high‑voltage transmission projects (69–500 kV). Familiarity with NESC, ASCE 48, ASCE 10, and utility design standards. Experience preparing engineering packages for capital projects. Field experience supporting construction or inspections. Familiarity with utility transmission standards. Self‑motivated and effective written and verbal communication skills. Success working with remote teams. Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish. Experience with retrofit or brown‑field projects. Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
