Registered Nurse 3 - Nurse Preceptor (WAE)

Overview A registered nurse will serve as a preceptor and provide mentorship while delivering direct patient care in the Nursing Department of ELMHS, located in Jackson, LA. The position requires a current Louisiana RN license or equivalent temporary permit or multi‑state license, along with one of the following experiences or educational qualifications: two years as an RN, or a bachelor’s degree in nursing with one year RN experience, or a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing or public health with one year RN experience. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care and develop nursing plans of care for patients on the assigned unit. Assist physicians with patient examinations, document patient data, and prepare and administer medication per physician orders for medical and psychiatric reasons. Assist other professionals in maintaining a therapeutic environment and improving patient care. Monitor medications and supplies in the medicine room, ensuring expiration dates are checked and controlled drugs are counted/documented with the shift change. Disinfect surfaces and equipment to meet infection control standards in medicine and examination rooms. Respond to hospital codes and provide appropriate nursing assistance during code situations. Assist or conduct patient care groups, monitor patient accountability sheets, and conduct unit rounds every two hours to ensure observation is maintained. Communicate verbally and in writing with pharmacy and central supply personnel. Maintain open and accurate communication with department personnel; report incidents, accidents, injuries, and patient abuse/neglect immediately to supervisors and document on appropriate forms. Participate in educational trainings required for accreditation and facility licensure. Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type: WAE (not to exceed 1,245 hours in a 12‑month period).
