Responsibilities:

• Draw high-quality blood samples from patients with precision and care, ensuring safety and comfort.
• Explain procedures clearly to patients to foster trust and reduce anxiety.
• Verify patient identity and demographic information, including patient signatures post-venipuncture, ensuring specimen accuracy and labels in accordance with established protocols.
• Prepare and process specimens for lab testing following standardized procedures, maintaining sample integrity throughout the collection and processing phases.
• Maintain meticulous records of collection activities, patient interactions, and specimen details to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
• Demonstrate leadership and professionalism in all interactions, promoting a positive image of the healthcare setting.
• Adhere to safety policies, infection control protocols, and confidentiality regulations at all times.
• Support staffing needs by being flexible with scheduling, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and travel across multiple locations or patient service centers.
• Participate actively in training, team meetings, and process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and operational efficiency.

Required Skills:

• Strong phlebotomy skills, with proven experience in collecting samples from pediatric and geriatric patients, including capillary collections.
• Ability to perform accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Excellent customer service skills; capable of communicating openly and compassionately with patients, families, and team members.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in labeling, documentation, and data entry.
• Good judgment and decision-making abilities based on established procedures and safety protocols.
• Basic proficiency in keyboard/data entry related to specimen tracking and record keeping.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record if travel is required.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Medical assistant or paramedic training.
• Phlebotomy certification (preferred but not mandatory).
• Experience working in a Patient Service Center or clinical setting.
• Knowledge of Laboratory Information System (LIS) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years of validated phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
• Previous experience in a busy clinical or laboratory environment highly preferred.
• Customer service background, especially in retail or service settings, is advantageous.

Other Requirements:

• Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call hours, to meet staffing needs.
• Ability to travel between multiple clinical locations with minimal notice.
• Valid phlebotomy certification is preferred for states where it is required; additional healthcare certifications are a plus.
• Ability to lift and position patients, handle specimens safely, and perform physical tasks associated with blood collection.
• Maintain compliance with all health and safety policies, including universal precautions and infection control protocols.
