Building Maintenance Supervisor

Overview This is supervisory building maintenance work directing a multi-trades component of a department's building maintenance and repair program. An employee in this class supervises, through subordinate trades supervisors, skilled, semi-skilled and full performance trades workers performing a variety of building and grounds maintenance and repair functions. This class is differentiated from lower level supervisory trades classes by the responsibility for supervising at least three separate trades. Work involves planning, assigning, coordinating and reviewing the work of building trades and grounds crews, insuring that work is completed in a timely and acceptable manner, and assigning priorities. Work is performed under the general supervision of an engineering or administrative building maintenance and repair superior. Eligiblity and Promotional Lists ELIGIBLE LIST: CITY-WIDE PROMOTIONAL. Departmental and interdepartmental promotional eligible lists will be established as a result of this examination. An appointment in any department may be made from either one of the above-established promotional lists as deemed appropriate by the appointing authority. Residence Preference Preference for Philadelphia residents exists. To receive such preference, candidates must respond to the residence question later in this form. The response on this application will be used to determine eligibility for residence preference. Documentation of residence may be required if there is any question as to whether you meet the residency preference requirements. If an applicant does not respond to the residence question, it will be assumed that the applicant does not qualify for residence preference. Eligibility for residence preference must be determined by the date of the test administration. No requests for residence preference will be granted after the test administration. Scores will be based on documentation of education and experience provided by the candidate. Eligibility Standards An Eligible List will be established the week of July 20, 2026. This date may change. Minimum Qualifications and Conditions The following represents the minimum training and experience standards used to admit or reject applicants for tests:

1. Civil Service Status: Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status and a Performance Rating of Satisfactory or higher.
2. Education: Education equivalent to completion of twelfth grade.
3. Experience: Five years of experience in the trades commonly used in building maintenance, two years of which shall have been at the group leader level, or any equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the Personnel Department that includes the described experience.

Physical, Medical, and Licenses Physical and medical requirements: Ability to physically perform the duties and work in the environmental conditions required by this class.
