About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Must have 1 year experience and be willing to learn and ask questions. Description: The unit has a capacity of 35 beds with generally a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5. Certain patient populations may have a ratio of 1:4, including neck dissections, facial reconstructions, and epilepsy patients. Common diagnoses and types of patients treated include orthopedic surgeries such as total joints, traumatic fractures, thyroid surgeries, and epilepsy monitoring. Pediatric overflow patients include cases of pneumonia, orthopedic surgeries, and behavioral health issues. General medical-surgical cases include appendectomies, cholecystectomies, pneumonia, and COPD. The unit also has three epilepsy beds for patients undergoing video EEG monitoring. Charge nurse support is available on each shift, with additional management presence to assist staff. Patient care techs are available on the unit, with a caregiver to patient ratio of 1:08. The shifts are primarily from 7 PM to 7 AM, with opportunities to fill in on weekends and holidays as needed. Floating to similar units is required, with limited floating to other facilities. No specific scrub color is mandated, but attire must be clean and professional. Unit-specific orientation is provided for new staff. Candidates must reside outside a specified radius to be considered for the position.
