Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking experienced Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) for a long-term locum tenens opportunity in Suffolk, Virginia .

This assignment is built for clinically confident CRNAs who value meaningful autonomy and a broad perioperative practice. CRNAs administer their own anesthetic medications and should be comfortable placing epidurals, spinals and arterial lines , while supporting a diverse surgical environment extending through the end of 2026.

The need begins ASAP , with opportunities for expedited credentialing for qualifying candidates.

Clinical Practice

CRNAs should be prepared to manage anesthesia care across a varied surgical population and perform core anesthesia procedures independently within credentialed scope.

Expected clinical capabilities include:

• Administer and manage anesthetic medications
• Perform spinal anesthesia
• Place lumbar epidural catheters
• Place arterial lines
• Manage patients throughout the perioperative continuum
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nursing teams and perioperative staff
• Document anesthesia care within Cerner

The broader surgical program publicly reports seven operating rooms and approximately 5,000 cases annually , with surgical services including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Vascular, Gynecology, Spine, Podiatry and Plastic Surgery.

Procedural Scope

CRNAs may perform:

• Epidurals
• Spinals
• Arterial catheter placement

CRNAs will not be expected to perform:

• Brachial plexus blocks
• Other regional anesthesia blocks outside the defined scope

OB & Trauma Experience

OB and Trauma are not mandatory components of the primary coverage need , but experience in these areas is highly valued.

Candidates with:

• Obstetric anesthesia experience
• Strong epidural skills
• Level I Trauma experience

may be particularly competitive.

The client specifically requires some previous Level I Trauma experience , even though routine trauma coverage is not expected to dominate the assignment.

Publicly available recruiting information also confirms that the broader anesthesia service has historically included meaningful obstetric activity, with a recent CRNA recruitment campaign reporting more than 275 OB cases annually.

Call Expectations

Candidates must be willing to participate in call if needed.

• Beeper call only
• Maximum anticipated commitment: approximately 1–2 call shifts per month
• Current expectation is that actual call utilization may be minimal
• Additional call details will be confirmed during scheduling

Because the practice requires flexibility, CRNAs unwilling to participate in any call cannot currently be considered.

Candidate Requirements

• Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
• Current NBCRNA certification
• Active Virginia CRNA license already in hand
• Recent clinical anesthesia experience
• Previous Level I Trauma experience
• Comfortable administering own anesthetic medications
• Competent with epidurals
• Competent with spinal anesthesia
• Competent with arterial-line placement
• Comfortable with potential limited beeper call
• Clean credentialing background strongly preferred

OB and broader Trauma experience are preferred but are not required for the core clinical assignment.
