Art Teacher – High School $60,789 to $96,086 Chaminade College Preparatory (Chatsworth) Expires 06/14/2026 Description Chaminade College Preparatory seeks a dynamic, innovative, and engaging ART TEACHER with expertise in Traditional Art, Digital Art and Photography and strong classroom management skills for our high school campus (grades 9‑12) in West Hills, California. This is a full‑time position teaching four classes. The Successful Candidate Teaches a rigorous art curriculum that empowers students to shape their world artistically, communicate effectively, and become culturally and socially engaged citizens. Creates a learning environment that allows students to flourish artistically, builds knowledge of key principles, and develops fundamental art skills including drawing, colouring, painting technique, as well as fundamentals of digital design and introduction to photography. Has proven experience teaching contemporary skills that enable students to flourish in diverse academic, professional, and cultural contexts. Provides consistent, high‑quality feedback in line with articulated course standards, fostering a safe and supportive classroom environment that encourages creativity. Knows how to apply principles of backward design and implements lessons that enable all students to succeed and reach their full potential. Stays up‑to‑date with new art techniques, technologies, and trends to enhance teaching methods and student learning. Key Responsibilities Teaches four high school art classes. Collaborates with department members and course counterpart to design and teach a curriculum that builds students’ toolkit of foundational principles and elements so that students can: create powerful work that is relevant to their identities and lived experiences appreciate art and artists think and speak like artists, critiquing their own and others’ work Exposes students to a diverse range of art and artists that respect students’ diverse social identities while still corresponding to Catholic Marianist values and the mission of the school. Under the supervision of vice principals, teaches a standards‑based curriculum (California state and Archdiocesan). Plans lessons, provides feedback and grades, maintains records, and communicates with students, families, and counselors when support is needed. Collaborates with department members to evaluate, monitor, and update curriculum, assessment, and pacing guides under guidance of the Department Chair. Ensures instructional strategies respect students’ diverse social identities while aligning with Catholic Marianist values and the school mission. Creates an emotionally and physically safe learning environment where students can see themselves as artists and feel safe to express themselves. Integrates technology using Blackboard LMS, EdTech apps such as Nearpod, Formative, AP Classroom, discipline‑based learning technology tools, and other collaborative and productivity tools (*All students use a school‑issued tablet daily*). Is knowledgeable about new trends and developments in arts‑based instructional strategies and assessment. Wage Range The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. Compensation is determined by factors such as skill sets, experience, training, and other department needs. Requirements Qualifications Has a passion for teaching art at the secondary level and is skilled at working with high‑school aged students. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the subject discipline is required. A teaching credential and/or a master’s degree in the subject discipline is preferred. Proficient in teaching applications in the Adobe Creative Suite (preferred). Prior teaching experience, especially in a Catholic educational setting, is preferred; however, relevant experience in the field is also strongly considered. Is comfortable delivering instruction on campus, via remote learning, and/or in a hybrid model. Wants to work in a setting committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion of all school stakeholders.
