TEMPORARY Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator - Blue Mesa Reservoir

Position Overview This is a temporary position (9 months or less) paying $19.00 per hour. Employment starts 04/01/2026 through 10/31/2026 at Blue Mesa Reservoir near Gunnison, Colorado. Responsibilities Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Blue Mesa Reservoir. Work will be completed independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels. Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species by distributing printed materials to those visiting the reservoir. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma. Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings. Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred. Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired. Reliable and timely. Ability to self-motivate and work independently. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment. Excellent customer service skills and/or experience working with the public. Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position. Other Requirements Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle. If assigned a State fleet vehicle or required to operate a vehicle for the position, motor vehicle records will be pulled for review.
