Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor and Delivery

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to patients across various stages of life, adhering to organizational standards, policies, and evidence-based practices. The RN will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while delivering high-quality, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered services. Collaboration with providers and interdisciplinary teams is essential to promote optimal patient outcomes, safety, and a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
• Implement and evaluate nursing interventions and patient responses.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders and policies.
• Recognize changes in patient conditions and initiate appropriate interventions or escalate care as needed.
• Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
• Deliver culturally responsive, patient-centered care.
• Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams for coordinated care.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record.
• Participate in quality and performance improvement activities and maintain required competencies and certifications.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, flexibility, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska or another U.S. state is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications are required.
• Clinical competency required within three months and recertification every three years.
• High Risk Competency validation is required within three months and annually thereafter.
• New graduates must obtain all required certifications within six months of hire.
• Experienced nurses entering a specialty area must obtain all required certifications within six months of hire.
• Nurses must demonstrate knowledge of nursing principles, evidence-based practice, medication safety, and infection prevention.
• Strong clinical judgment, organization, prioritization, and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform bending, stooping, and kneeling.
• Ability to work in a moderate-to-high noise clinical environment.

Safety Responsibility

Employees are responsible for adhering to safe work practices, reporting injuries and unsafe conditions, and cooperating in safety investigations.

Additional Information

Flexible working arrangements and teamwork are crucial components of the role. The RN will float to other departments or assignments as necessary. This position requires holiday coverage.
