Case Manager

The Case Manager provides clients with essential behavioral health case management services, focusing on implementing individualized service plans to address behavioral health needs, substance use challenges, and housing stability. This position works collaboratively with other members of the client's care team to identify and access services necessary for the client to stabilize and achieve their goals.

CSS is a Catholic human and social services agency and behavioral health care provider that welcomes people of all faiths through its programs and employment. We provide help for our Alaskan neighbors through a variety of supportive service programs, including emergency shelter, food stability, housing, case management, and refugee assistance. Located in Anchorage, Alaska, CSS is a nationally accredited organization through the Council on Accreditation (COA), which recognizes that CSS provides high quality services that meet best practice standards in the social service field.

This program provides supportive services to adults who are unhoused in the Anchorage community. The program is dedicated to helping individuals move from crisis to stability, improving their quality of life, and empowering them to achieve their full potential. Through this collaborative, trauma-informed approach, we support each client in their unique journey toward healing, stability, and lasting well-being. We do this by providing behavioral health support, health and wellness, housing assistance, and peer support.

Required competencies include accountability, adapting to change, confidentiality, effective communication, cultural competence, decision making/judgment, delivering high-quality work, results orientation, teamwork, stress tolerance, and empathy. Knowledge required includes intensive case management models, principles of case management, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, federal, state, and local regulations about housing and homelessness, housing first model and harm reduction, resources in the Anchorage community, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities include behavioral health support, resource coordination, documentation & billing, crisis intervention & support, ongoing support & advocacy, collaboration & coordination, and community resource knowledge. Additional requirements include flexibility to work varying hours and days, including evenings and weekends as required.

Qualifications for Case Manager I include a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience as a CSS Assistant Case Manager or in a related direct service role. For Case Manager III, a bachelor's degree in social work, human services, social services, addiction, counseling, psychiatric nursing, or psychology is required, along with four years of directly applicable experience. For Case Manager IV, a bachelor's degree and two years of experience as a CSS Case Manager III are required.

Work environment includes a typical shared indoor office space, outreach and case management in shelters and agencies throughout the community, in housing obtained for clients, or in public settings for unhoused clients, such as libraries and dining areas. Physical demands include occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, frequently sitting or standing at a desk for several hours at a time, and driving is required. Travel within Anchorage is required, while travel out of Alaska is rare.
