This role involves handling production support, performing regular maintenance activities, troubleshooting issues, managing user access, working with vendors, and supporting various business and technical teams. The DBA will also play a key role in patching, backup, stats management, incident resolution, and compliance with organizational security and operational standards.Key Responsibilities:Production Support & Incident ManagementManage and support Teradata database nodes, platform, and utility servers with minimal downtime.Execute database scripts for applications and business users.Monitor system logs for hardware/software/database/job failures and troubleshoot.Review health reports and take action on critical warnings and alerts in a timely manner.Manage capacity thresholds and OS disk space on utility servers.Teradata workload management using TASM features.Restore databases from backup in the event of human error or business request.Manage and resolve incidents and service requests (approximately 300 hours allocated).Re-trigger and troubleshoot failed jobs after resolution.Provide RCA (Root Cause Analysis) for recurring issues.Involve vendor SMEs for critical production issues and drive timely resolution.Coordinate and provide extended onsite support during BestBuy’s critical blackout days.2. Maintenance & Patch ManagementPerform monthly maintenance activities including backup, stats collection, and log reviews.Install vendor-recommended patches, security certificates, and hotfixes.Perform minor patch installations and infrastructure-related firmware updates.Apply updates for security patches per Best Buy requirements.Schedule and monitor threshold alerts for file systems and performance degradation.Enhance and optimize maintenance scripts for better system performance.3. Backup and RecoveryMonitor and maintain database backups per Best Buy policy.Purge backup tables based on data retention policies.Coordinate with Teradata Vendor for cloud backup availability and restore procedures.Participate in Teradata Disaster Recovery (DR) testing and support application testing on DR systems.4. Stats Collection and Performance OptimizationRun and monitor statistics collection jobs for database objects.Recommend and execute stats collection for key columns and newly added tables.Add new tables to stats framework as per requests.Review and optimize system and database logs for performance issues.Provide query tuning and performance improvement recommendations.5. User and Access ManagementProvide system access based on OIG and Steward requests.Manage and expire users as per Steward comments and inactivity (e.g., >90 days).Handle ad-hoc password reset requests and maintain DBA account passwords.Manage service account creation and permission allocation per change requests.Ensure password security protocols, including secure sharing with vendors and managing user expiration.6. Security & ComplianceMonitor for any security-related alerts and take corrective actions.Ensure security updates and patches are applied as required.Verify and report logs related to security and compliance issues.Implement and manage user deactivation and cleanup from enterprise directory.7. Vendor and Stakeholder CollaborationEngage with vendors to resolve hardware/software failures and performance issues.Follow up with vendors for patch downloads, root cause analysis, and escalations.Work with vendors to transfer patches if limitations exist in direct transfer.Coordinate with business and technical teams for capacity planning and service improvements.Collaborate with Steward team for elevated user access and compliance tasks.8. Knowledge Management and ReportingUpdate Knowledge Base articles once issues are resolved.Provide weekly (WSR) and monthly (MSR) status reports.Perform Adhoc and scheduled reporting on database logs, system performance, and query execution.Track and ensure problem tickets are updated with actions and resolutions.9. Project and Change SupportPerform DDL/DML deployments for support teams.Implement fixes or workarounds for unresolved issues and manage change requests.Review new data topics for business alignment and capacity concerns.Modify backup and stats frameworks to support new objects or changes in scope.Participate in holiday readiness planning and execution (prod monitoring, capacity review, etc.)Tools & Technologies:Database: TeradataETL: InformaticaMonitoring & Logging: System logs, database logs, query logsReporting: Power BI, Adhoc reportingAccess Management: SailPoint, Active DirectoryIncident Management Tools: ServiceNow, Slack, Teams (for untracked requests)Scripting & Automation: Maintenance script optimization, stats automation through Shell scripts and PowerShell.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.9 + years of hands-on experience as a Teradata DBA or similar MPP database platform(with minimum of 5 Years Teradata experience).Expertise in Teradata query tuning, workload optimization and performance management.Strong understanding of database backup/recovery, stats collection, and performance tuning.Experience in production support with Business critical and high availability systems.Strong communication skills for coordinating with vendors and business teams.Familiarity with enterprise security and compliance requirements.Ability to triage and resolve high-priority incidents effectively.Soft Skills:Analytical thinking and problem-solving.Maintains open and clear communication channels, ensuring critical issues are promptly escalated.Proactive in identifying and resolving issues.Strong documentation and reporting skills.Ability to work independently and in a team.Excellent organizational and time management skills.SRI Tech Solutions is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, national origin or citizenship status or ethnic origin, disability, marital status, veteran status, or any other occupationally irrelevant criteria.
