Engineering | Engineering Education Lecturer (Semester) Department of Engineering Education College of Engineering Position Overview The Department of Engineering Education ( at The Ohio State University is accepting applications from candidates with backgrounds of all engineering backgrounds for a part-time Lecturer appointment to teach first-year engineering courses in the Department of Engineering Education. The appointment would begin in August 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year. To support these efforts, the Department of Engineering Education invites applicants for a lecturer position. We will consider all qualified applicants with expertise in engineering education, computing education, computer science education and related fields. Successful candidates will demonstrate interest and ability to lead the development and delivery of new courses to undergraduate students. All courses are taught in person on the University's main campus in Columbus, Ohio. The Ohio State University will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position. Performance Objectives • Presenting course material and guiding students through assignments • Creating an engaging and inclusive classroom environment • Demonstrated commitment to student success. • Collaboration with fellow instructors • Contribute to research projects that inform decisions and practices in the Center. Education and Experience Requirements Required • Master's degree or equivalent • A desire to teach or passion for teaching undergraduate engineering students • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Strong interpersonal skills • A commitment to or demonstrated efforts in teaching that reflect Ohio State's Shared Values. Desired • PhD in engineering or a related area • Experience teaching as an instructor of record or graduate teaching assistant in a learning setting including, but not limited to, higher education or K-12 schools How to Apply You will be presented with the opportunity to attach documents in the Application Documents section. Teaching Statement. Write 1-2 pages narrative that includes: • A personal vision for teaching and learning • A description of teaching strategies or approaches for which you received training or have implemented. • Justification for those strategies, highlighting how to achieve an inclusive learning environment for all students regardless of their backgrounds, expectations, and needs. • A description of the ways in which your professional experience will inform the creation of new courses, enhancement of existing courses, and other educational activities for students. • State mentoring skills you consider fundamental, including those necessary to effectively mentor students with different cultural backgrounds and those belonging to groups identified by NSF as historically underrepresented in STEM. The Engineering Education Department (EED) has a mission that includes advancing the engineering profession and enabling student success by: • Contributing to developing world-class scholarship in engineering education. • Modeling and advocating scholarly, evidence-based teaching within the College of Engineering. • Developing and delivering state-of-the-art, innovative, multidisciplinary courses and programs in first-year engineering, engineering technical communication, multidisciplinary capstone design, and graduate education in engineering education. The EED was created in November 2015. The EED curriculum is centered around first-year engineering courses, technical communication, multi-disciplinary capstone, other specialized courses and programs, and a doctoral program in engineering education. About 4,000 undergraduate students enroll each year in the first-year engineering courses, about 900 undergraduate students in the technical communications courses, and about 100 undergraduate students in the multidisciplinary capstone courses. In Autumn 2024, 26 graduate students were enrolled in the engineering education doctoral program.
