Duties

Help

You will serve as a Painter and be responsible for the preparation, by mechanical and chemical process, and the protective and cosmetic coating of buoys, vessels, structures, and miscellaneous objects.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

• Preparing metal surfaces for coating by dry and wet abrasive blasting, by grinding with abrasive disks and wheels, and by chemical stripping methods.
• Preparing metal surfaces by pickling or through controlled oxidation; prepares fiber reinforced plastic surfaces by filling, shaping, and abrasive sanding; prepares masonry surfaces by mechanical and abrasive blasting methods.
• Developing coatings of proper color, adjusting hue, intensity and tone to match existing color schemes.
• Developing coatings of proper texture, consistency, and thickness; diagnoses coating problems, and adjusts application or mixture to obtain desired results adjusting and operating air and airless spray apparatuses.

Qualifications

Specialized experience/Screen-out : To qualify for the Painter (Blaster), WG-4102-9, applicants must meet the following screen-out job element to be considered for this position:

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Student Loan- Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year.
