Motor Vehicle Operator

The primary purpose of this position is transporting Veterans, visitors, and staff and supplies and equipment from the main warehouse to various locations at an assigned Veterans Administration medical facility and any additional location, i.e., Outpatient Clinic(s), National Cemetery, and VA Regional office, as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Operates vehicles such as shuttle carts/golf carts, vans, pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, and sports utility vehicles which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10,000 pounds).
• Handles cargo loading and unloading from vehicles to provide timely delivery of supplies and equipment directly to users or to storage areas and completes documentation to record activities.
• Secures cargo to prevent damage to contents during transport and ensures that the vehicle is not loaded beyond the maximum capacity.
• Loads and unloads by hand but may use a handcart to transport items.
• Protects materials, supplies and equipment from the elements.
• Vehicle transport includes medical and office supplies, equipment, and mail over Federal, State and Country roads in all traffic conditions, on specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules.
• Performs routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle to include, but not limited to, the addition of fuels or lubricants and the checking of tire pressure.
• Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of both the in and outside of the vehicle.
• Completes all maintenance service records to document activities.
• Provides courtesy rides to staff, Veterans, and visitors as needed to and from parking lots or garages and/or to and from buildings on the facility campus.
• Assists in areas like the warehouse to receive, store, and move materials and equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday Friday: 7:30am-4:00pm

In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
• This position is covered by a special rate.
• This position is not in a Bargaining Unit position.
• Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
