Serve with our team to grow the individual volunteer cohort, seek out needed community partners, and find new ways to address the needs and challenges that families in are community are facing. This position will provide direct experience serving with families and children that are on their journey from homelessness into housing and plays a critical role to ensure that external partners are of best service to the organization and guests we serve. Day in Life of JV The day will begin with arriving in bustling South Lake Union Seattle. The Mary’s Place Family Shelter in The Regrade is located amongst offices, restaurants, and businesses. Once you get to the office, you’ll have time to check in on emails, any inquiries that may have come in, and any administrative tasks yet to be completed for the day. This might include checking in with staff to remind them of incoming groups for that day and see if there are any specific tasks the volunteers can tackle. You may then attend team meetings, either for our smaller Volunteer Services team, larger Development/Communications team, or spend time chatting with prospective volunteers to share about current openings. Around midday, efforts will shift towards on-site volunteer support. If there are volunteers that are assisting with lunch, whether it be an individual or a corporate group leading an activity, you will meet them and bring them up to the dining area. You’ll provide a short overview of the event and provide any necessary directions. You will then partner with staff to make sure that things are going well throughout the activity. There may also be a special group event that will require assistance, such as a group doing a deep clean or serving in the Marketplace. Between lunch and dinner, you will prepare for upcoming events, any longer-term projects, and check in with program partners across the organization. As students return from school, the shelter gets busy, and you’ll get to see the kids back in the building. Prior to the day ending, you’ll support any volunteers who will be serving dinner. While every day isn’t the same, there are lots of opportunities for celebration with events, baby showers, birthday parties, and more sprinkled in.
