Lab Manager

ECS Limited offers a unique opportunity for a talented and certified Lab Manager to join our team in Charlottetown. The role focuses on quality control and staff management within the construction materials testing laboratory. Responsibilities Laboratory Safety and Compliance: Promote safety, ensure proper PPE use, oversee calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with corporate QMS and accreditation requirements, and ensure all team members maintain relevant certifications. Laboratory Leadership: Manage activities and personnel related to geotechnical and construction materials testing, oversee schedules and work of technicians, and manage laboratory tests and data interpretation. Soils Testing: Oversee routine laboratory tests for soils (Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content, unconfined compressive strength, standard and modified proctor tests) and learn visual soil classification. Concrete Testing: Oversee routine laboratory tests for concrete (labeling, curing, temperature monitoring, sample breaking). Data Management: Prepare and review reports, perform calculations and data reduction of test results. Communication: Mentor and train lab staff, coordinate technician schedules, assist project managers and department manager, maintain staffing, and participate in business development, marketing, and client development. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. 4+ years of related laboratory testing experience on construction materials. Basic concrete and/or soils lab certifications and willingness to maintain them. Ability to lift 60–80 pounds. Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, writing). Ability to work effectively with peers, supervisors, and clients, building a team. Good understanding of construction materials laboratory testing equipment, methods, principles, applications, and ASTM standards, including interpretation of results relative to specifications. Proficiency in data interpretation and evaluation of CMT techniques and results. Leadership and decision‑making skills. Sound knowledge of QMS implementation and laboratory accreditation requirements. Knowledge of ECS systems and procedures is a plus. ECS is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
