HILL COUNTRY TRANSIT DISTRICTJOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Class B-2 MechanicDepartment: Fleet MaintenanceReports To: Urban Fleet ManagerFLSA Status: Non-ExemptSalary: $20.85 per hourRevision Date: December 14, 2021Effective Date: December 14, 2021 SUMMARY Responsible for performing various maintenance related duties of the Urban Division of HCTD, under the direction of the HCTD Fleet Manager or designee, including but not limited to the tasks detailed below. Must perform all duties in a safe manner. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Perform basic service for fleet related to running repairs, such as light bulbs, flashers, minor repairs, and, perform higher levels of service and repairs, to include brakes, suspensions, air conditioners, electrical, as skills are developed;Support and assist in the performance of all maintenance and repairs on the vehicle fleet "in house" when possible;Assists in making major repairs to body, chassis, engines and other component systems.Perform basic PMI service tasks such as oil and filter changes, fluid level checks, safety inspections, and minor repairs;Assist in the movement of vehicles, and schedule and coordinate all out-of-service vehicles with the Fleet Manager or designee;Assist in the maintenance of cleanliness and proper appearance of vehicle fleet, passenger shelters, benches, and immediate grounds, and all office and shop space;Assist in the assembly and placement of benches and trash containers and installation/replacement of Bus Stop route signs as required;Assist in the maintenance and changing out of advertising displays inside and outside of buses, on passenger shelters and benches, and on other displays as directed by the Fleet Manager or designee;Assist in preparing new vehicles for placement into service;Diagnose and perform maintenance, service, and repair of all equipment and components of The HOP facilities, regardless of type, as directed;Maintain an organized and orderly work area;Maintain vehicle maintenance records as required;Serve as lead mechanic in the absence of the Class A and direct work flow as required.Other Duties/Responsibilities Assist in maintenance and proper storage of cleaning supplies and equipment, and notifying Fleet Manager of needs;Maintain orderliness of supplies;Maintain safety in all duties;Assist with new driver orientation and training of urban drivers;Assist Fleet Manager and other supervisory personnel as needed;Perform other duties as assigned by the Fleet Manager.  Minimum Requirements (Mandatory for Hiring) Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skills and knowledge for successful performance;Knowledge of mechanics and relevant skills; Knowledge of fleet A/C systems;Must have mechanic tools;Organizational abilities;Oral and written communication skills;Ability to deal with stress and to meet deadlines;Ability to handle diverse multiple responsibilities;Ability to work independently, as well as in a group;Ability to efficiently and effectively complete tasks with minimal supervision;Must be self-motivated;Must have the ability to drive a vehicle and have a clear driving record;Must pass a criminal record check;Must receive a negative drug test result;Must pass a D.O.T. physical; Ability to effectively communicate and work with others;Ability to maintain accurate records;Ability to deal with problems constructively.Must have a valid CDL permit and have already successfully passed the following (5) skills tests and be ready to take road test and take Passenger Endorsement and Air Brake Endorsement within 30 days of hire: General Knowledge TestPassenger Endorsement TestAir Brake TestPre-Trip TestSpecial Requirement Test Skills That May Be Taught On the Job Vehicle and fleet systems and components – repair and diagnostic skills;Policies and procedures relating to HCTD;Completion of required paperwork. RELATIONSHIP SKILLS Ability to work cooperatively and productively with supervisors, co-workers, professionals, and groups of persons at all levels of activity;Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;Ability to perform tasks effectively and efficiently;Ability to plan and schedule work and implement directives without constant supervision;Ability to present a professional appearance and conduct when representing the system. PERFORMANCE CONDITIONS IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: HCTD Urban Fleet ManagerWORK SITE LOCATION: BeltonREGULAR WORKING HOURS: To be determined by managementIRREGULAR WORKING HOURS REQUIRED: YesWORK ALONE: NoJOB REQUIRES OUT-OF-TOWN AND/OR OVERNIGHT TRAVEL: RarelyHAZARDOUS CONDITIONS: None Supplemental Requirements This position is classified as safety-sensitive and is required to undergo and successfully pass pre-employment drug and/or alcohol testing, criminal background check, driving record check, and Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination prior to appointment to position. The duties listed above are intended only as general illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.
