Learning Support Specialist

Drew University seeks a part-time Learning Support Specialist for the Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR). The Specialist will provide case management, academic coaching, and advocacy to students with disabilities enrolled in the Drew Learning Support Program (DLSP), with a focus on academic skills, self-advocacy, independence, and personal development. The Specialist will also support the Drew Summer Transition Program for first-year students.

This is an in-person position reporting to the Director of Accessibility Resources, typically 15-25 hours per week. The schedule will be established in advance each semester.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a caseload of students enrolled in the DLSP program.
• Provide direct instruction in learning strategies, study skills, and adaptive technology during weekly student meetings.
• Assist students in locating and utilizing campus resources and services, including the Center for Academic Excellence, Counseling Center, and Health Services.
• Communicate with faculty, staff, and parents regarding students' individual needs, goals, and progress.
• Collaborate with faculty to ensure students are appropriately accommodated and supported in the classroom.
• Monitor student progress and assist with academic advising in collaboration with academic advisors.
• Assist the OAR Director with planning and implementing the DLSP and Drew Summer Transition Program.
• Create and implement workshops addressing student needs and supporting academic success.
• Maintain records and database information and provide reports on meeting attendance, resource utilization, and academic progress.
• Assist with DLSP recruitment by attending Open Houses and other promotional events.
• Participate in professional development related to disability services.
• Participate in weekly OAR staff meetings and collaborate with other campus offices that provide student support.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Preferred: Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, Rehabilitation or related field.
• 1-3 years in an educational setting working with persons with disabilities.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Qualities:

• Experience working with young adults with disabilities and/or students with developmental/ executive functioning needs
• Experience with academic coaching models to support time management, organization, study and test taking skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with students, faculty and staff.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Google suite programs.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate occasional evening and/or weekend programming.
