Position Details Job Code: JC-523347 Position #: 275-210-4179-708 Working Title: Accounts Payable Accountant Trainee Classification: ACCOUNTANT TRAINEE Salary: $4,442.00 – $5,296.00 A # of Positions: 1 Work Location: Sacramento County Telework: In Office (onsite) Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Job Description and Duties The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) Financial Reporting and Accounting Services Division seeks an Accountant Trainee to provide professional accounting duties to support the Accounts Payable Unit. Responsibilities include: Processing department expenses and investment fund expenses Reviewing contracts and purchase orders to validate appropriate general ledger coding and available funding Assisting vendors and CalPERS staff with payment inquiries Researching and analyzing vendor payment information and related accounting data Resolving less complex processing issues and maintaining accurate accounting records Office (no remote): requires full‑time attendance in the office, onsite five days per week. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: All experience and education relating to the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) listed on the Classification Specification. Submit transcripts and evaluations for degrees obtained outside the United States. Candidates may need to pass an examination. Statement of Qualifications Applicants must provide a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) titled “Statement of Qualifications.” The SOQ should list all relevant experience, education, and training, and answer the following questions (no more than two pages): Describe your experience processing accounts payable, performing general ledger reconciliations, and reviewing purchase orders and contracts, including the types of expenses and accounting systems used. Describe a time when you identified a potential problem and resolved it before it became an issue. List specific accounting courses taken and explain how they contribute to success in this position.
