Job Description
Hospice Director/Administrator

Job Summary: The Hospice Director/Administrator is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising all operations and patient care activities of the Hospice Department. This role oversees compliance, quality management, staffing, fiscal planning, and community relations while ensuring the delivery of compassionate, high-quality end-of-life care. The Administrator collaborates with hospital leadership, physicians, and staff to achieve strategic goals and ensure regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Department Leadership and Operations:
  
  
  • Direct all day-to-day activities of the department and ensure quality hospice services.
  • Develop strategic plans, set goals, and monitor performance outcomes.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and ensure policies and procedures are up-to-date with state and federal regulations.
  • Serve as the liaison between hospice services and healthcare agencies, as well as the community.
  • Provide direct patient care when necessary to uphold high standards of service.
• Clinical Leadership & Patient Care Oversight:
  
  
  • Provide clinical leadership as the RN leader for hospice services, ensuring care delivery aligns with hospice philosophy and patient/family needs.
  • Facilitate effective communication among personnel providing services and support feedback mechanisms for patients and families.
• Staff Management and Development:
  
  
  • Interview, hire, and train staff, conducting performance evaluations and necessary disciplinary actions.
  • Oversee staffing and scheduling to meet departmental needs.
  • Support staff development and continuing education opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate payroll/timecard records in accordance with regulations.
• Financial and Quality Oversight:
  
  
  • Formulate, manage, and monitor the department's annual budget.
  • Oversee billing reconciliation and charge management.
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives and monitor department quality metrics.
  • Ensure that licensed personnel operate within their defined scope of practice.
• Community Engagement and Public Relations:
  
  
  • Develop and implement a marketing plan to promote hospice services.
  • Represent the hospice at community events, health fairs, open houses, and professional meetings.
  • Maintain relationships with community organizations to support patient needs.
  • Keep the Board of Directors informed of hospice activities and outcomes.
• Organizational and Regulatory Compliance:
  
  
  • Participate in and lead assigned committees.
  • Appoint a qualified alternate in case of absence.
  • Complete all mandatory training related to hospice administration, including fraud prevention, client rights, disaster planning, and infection control.

Qualifications:

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
• Completion of an additional 16 hours of hospice-specific administrative education within 12 months of hire is required.
• Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
• Two years of experience in hospice administration is preferred.

This role is based in a clinical and office environment and may involve patient care. Candidates should be prepared to deliver high-quality care and demonstrate strong leadership and administrative skills.
