Grain Scale Operator – Seasonal Position

Position: Grain Scale Operator
Employment Type: Seasonal / Full-Time
Department: Grain Operations
Shift: Day Shift
Schedule: Hours of operation generally range from 6:00 AM–7:00 PM, with schedules subject to change based on business needs.
Overtime/Weekends: May be required.

Position Summary

The Grain Scale Operator is responsible for accurately processing inbound, outbound, and transfer grain tickets while providing professional and courteous customer service to customers and truck drivers. This position operates the grain scale system, records weights and grades, processes tickets and invoices, and communicates important information with the Settlement, Origination, and Operations teams.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working with customers, and willing to learn grain-handling operations and scale procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Interact professionally with customers and truck drivers on a daily basis.
• Operate all aspects of the grain scale system, including:
  • Inbound transactions
  • Outbound transactions
  • Transfer transactions
  • Weights and grades
  • Customer account selection
  • Transfer and direct-location information
  • Freight rates and charges
  • Hauler account selection
• Accurately enter and process scale tickets and related information.
• Process customer and cash load-out tickets, including invoicing.
• Ensure all weight, grade, account, and ticket information is accurate and complete.
• Communicate with Settlement, Origination, and Operations staff regarding information collected at the scale.
• Provide timely weight and grade information to the appropriate departments.
• Provide basic customer service and respond to customer questions professionally.
• Answer incoming phone calls when other office staff are assisting customers.
• Communicate elevator hours, ticket information, and other relevant information to customers and truck drivers.
• Learn and effectively utilize the company’s scale system.
• Generate relevant reports and manage ticket processes from start to finish.
• Assist the Location Manager and Operations team with filing, reporting, and general administrative tasks.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional scale office and surrounding work area.
• Follow company policies, safety procedures, and operational guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Location Manager or Operations team.

Qualifications & Skills

• Previous customer service, office, agricultural, transportation, or grain industry experience is preferred.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Basic knowledge of mathematics and measurements.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to learn and operate computer-based scale systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
• Willingness and ability to learn grain-handling procedures and operations.
