Lead Assistant General Counsel

Position Summary

Responsible for legal counsel to Xcel Energy and management of Xcel Energy legal services, including outside counsel.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and counsel to Xcel Energy management on legal, business, legislation, regulation and strategic matters.
• Prepares contracts, agreements and other documents for business transactions.
• Represents Xcel Energy in courts, regulatory agencies and other adjudicatory or adversarial proceedings.
• Manages a team of attorneys within area of expertise. May act as a primary point of contact for business areas.

Minimum Requirements

• J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school;
• Licensed to practice, or able to be licensed to practice on reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe of accepting the position, in the state where the position is located.
• 10 or more years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent experience.
• Leadership experience required.

Preferred Requirements

• Utility experience or heavily regulated industry.

Salary

Anticipated starting base pay: $219,000.00 to $245,000.00 per year.
