The role offers direct client contact, sophisticated cross-disciplinary work, and meaningful responsibility across transactional and regulatory matters.LocationsBoston, MassachusettsHartford, Connecticut (preferred)New Haven, ConnecticutPosition OverviewThe ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience advising clients on complex environmental and regulatory matters, particularly in connection with real estate development, business transactions, financings, and corporate risk management.This role is ideal for an attorney with strong experience in:Environmental due diligenceTransactional risk allocationRegulatory compliance and enforcementPermitting and land use approvalsSite remediation and brownfield redevelopmentEnvironmental litigation and administrative proceedingsEnvironmental risk mitigation in M&A and real estate dealsThe firm offers a hybrid schedule with up to two remote days per week.Key ResponsibilitiesAdvise clients on environmental issues in M&A, financings, and real estate transactionsConduct and oversee environmental due diligenceDraft and negotiate environmental provisions, indemnities, and risk allocation mechanismsCounsel clients on environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, enforcement responses, and risk mitigation strategiesHandle site remediation and brownfield redevelopment mattersAdvise on state and federal environmental regulations across all mediaRepresent clients before state environmental agencies, federal regulatory bodies, and local environmental authoritiesSupport administrative proceedings, cost recovery disputes, and enforcement mattersEngage with agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Connecticut Siting CouncilQualificationsJ.D. from an accredited law schoolMinimum 4 years of environmental transactional and regulatory experienceStrong experience with environmental transactions, due diligence, permitting, regulatory compliance, site remediation, and enforcement mattersExperience with federal environmental, health, and safety statutes strongly preferredFamiliarity with emerging contaminants, evolving regulatory standards, Massachusetts and New York requirements, and international chemical regulationsExcellent legal research, writing, and project management skillsStrong business-oriented judgment and practical problem-solving abilityAbility to independently manage matters and client relationshipsConnecticut Bar admission requiredDual admission in New York and/or Massachusetts is a plusIdeal CandidateThe ideal attorney will be:Sophisticated in both transactional and regulatory environmental workComfortable advising on risk in complex business dealsSkilled at navigating agency interaction and compliance strategyInterested in direct client engagement and increasing responsibilityPractical, detail-oriented, and business-mindedLooking for a long-term growth platform with partnership potentialWhy This OpportunityThis is a compelling opportunity for an environmental associate seeking a hybrid transactional, regulatory, and enforcement practice with meaningful sophistication.
