The Role

We are seeking a Mission Critical Data Center Division Manager to serve as the founding leader of our new data center construction practice. This is employee number one for this division. You will have the authority and the mandate to build out an entire operational structure from scratch, including recruiting your own project management staff, superintendents, and preconstruction personnel as the pipeline grows. Reporting directly into the national division leadership, you will be responsible for both the business development side of getting us in front of the right clients and the operational side of executing work with precision.

The ideal candidate is someone who has spent meaningful time in the mission critical or data center construction space at a top-tier general contractor and understands the full lifecycle of these projects from pursuit through closeout. You know what it costs to miss a schedule milestone in this market, and you know how to build a team that does not.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

-       Lead all aspects of business development for the data center division, including identifying pursuits, cultivating owner and developer relationships, and positioning the firm competitively in the mission critical market

-       Serve as the primary executive overseeing all active mission critical projects, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality standards are upheld at every phase

-       Drive the preconstruction process including estimating guidance, scheduling strategy, risk identification, and proposal development for data center and co-location opportunities

-       Build out and manage the full divisional org structure over time, including hiring and mentoring project executives, project managers, and field superintendents dedicated to this practice

-       Develop and enforce execution standards and best practices specific to mission critical construction to protect the firm from schedule risk and liquidated damages exposure

-       Coordinate closely with in-house preconstruction and estimating departments to develop accurate, competitive project bids

-       Manage subcontractor and vendor relationships specific to data center construction including electrical, mechanical, and specialty systems trades

-       Monitor project performance across all active data center work and report progress to national division leadership

-       Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to build brand credibility in the mission critical space

-       Establish and document internal processes, workflows, and quality controls for the new division

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

-       10 or more years of construction experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role on mission critical or data center projects

-       Demonstrated history of managing large-scale data center or co-location construction projects from pursuit through completion with a top general contractor

-       Deep understanding of the mission critical construction environment including MEP systems, critical power, cooling infrastructure, and the unique scheduling and liquidated damages risks inherent to this market

-       Proven ability to develop client relationships and generate new business in the data center or mission critical construction sector

-       Strong background in preconstruction, estimating, and contract negotiation for complex construction projects

-       Experience building and managing high-performing field and office teams across multiple concurrent projects

-       Existing relationships with data center developers, hyperscale owners, or co-location operators is a strong plus

-       Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to represent the firm at the executive level

-       Comfortable operating in a startup-style environment with limited existing infrastructure and high organizational autonomy

-       Located in or willing to relocate to Nashville, TN
