Assistant Maintenance TechnicianThe salary range for these positions is $4,546.00 - $5,632.00 monthly.Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for four (4) Assistant Maintenance Technicians to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Road Operations team. The successful candidate will perform traffic control within work sites, operate assigned equipment, and perform other general labor duties.Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:Perform labor associated with maintenance and repair of County roadway systems including traffic control, vegetation control, asphalt patching, and assistance at the County rock pit sites.Control traffic by flagging to guide traffic through work areas and explain to public reasons for the job being performed, perform traffic control by properly placing signs and cones.Drive and operate a variety of equipment, such as, but not limited to:5-yard dump truckTractor broomShoulder mowerAir compressor/JackhammerForkliftPortable compactorPortable brush cutterWill be assigned to various maintenance activities such as, but not limited to:Brush crewGradingTraffic controlDitchingPatchingChip SealBelt loadingShoulder rockBridge crewMowingEssential Personnel: This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs, such as clearing roads during a snow and ice event.WORKING CONDITIONS:Work Environment - Performs the majority of duties outdoors exposed to a variety of weather conditions. Employee risks physical hazard from heavy equipment, traffic and exposure to fumes, paints, solvents, pesticides, noise, and other hazardous/dangerous materials. Physical effort is required due to heavy lifting, frequently in excess of 50 lbs. and working in confined or cramped sites.Schedule - A regular full-time workweek shall normally consist of forty (40) hours within a seven (7) day period. The schedule may consist of eight (8), nine (9), or ten (10) hours of actual time worked or compensated per a twenty-four (24) hour period. Feel free to think about how you will bring your own set of skills to the role and tell us about the potential that you hold.QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or GED.Two years' experience in road maintenance, construction, traffic control, and/or heavy equipment operation.Must possess a Washington Traffic Flagging Card or obtain one within six (6) months of employment.Must hold a valid First Aid Card or obtain within three (3) months of employment.Current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.A valid Washington State Class A, Commercial Driver's License with air brake. A special endorsement for tanker must be obtained within six months of hire date.
