Apply Today!     Where You Will Work    Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.    The community of Silver City boasts various restaurants, arts, entertainment, cliff dwellings, festivals and much more. Visit Silver Cityto learn more.   What You Will DoUnder general supervision, you provide professional geotechnical engineering support, leadership, analysis, and review related to the design, construction, and operation of slope stability for Crushed Ore Leach Stockpiles, Tailings Storage Facilities, Water Dams, and their foundations, serving as a technical resource for geotechnical information and analysis.Supervise, guide, and participate in inspections, measurements, data management, interpretation, analysis, coordination, problem solving, and reporting to maintain facility performanceApply and improve tailings, crushed leach, and water management systems and procedures for assigned active and inactive facilitiesOversee construction QC/QA activitiesCollaborate with operators, engineers, and maintenance to ensure performance and implement improvements across mine, process, tailings, water, environmental, and safety areasEngage the Engineer of Record in design and operationsCommunicate accurate, timely geotechnical information to operational managementServe as the site point of contact with corporate engineering and management, track and ensure compliance with recommendationsManage multiple projects; moderate size and portion of major projectsContribute to budgets and capital planning Lead and mentor engineers and contractorsReview designs in key practice areas and understand interaction with other functional areas/disciplinesApply relevant standards Actively support operation’s water team and engineers with analysis of material properties, water loss parameters, and operational changes for TSFs, CLSs, and WDs represent the site on company teamsMay represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to geotechnical effortsWhat You Bring To FreeportBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and five (5) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise ORMaster’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and three (3) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise.Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil, Geologic, Geotechnical, or Hydrologic Engineering or a related field of Science or EngineeringAbility to demonstrate technical competence through design and/or operations experience in tailings storage, leach stockpiles, water dams, or process water balanceKnowledge of appropriate software, including MS Office, AutoCAD, and geotechnical data analysisAbility to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to a diversely educated audienceAbility to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety of yourself and othersPreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in a related engineering disciplineProfessional Engineer (PE) certificationEngineer in Training (ETI) or equivalent relevant certificationActive tailings deposition planning and execution experience and/or earth embankment construction monitoring and quality assuranceExperience with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring programs, data management, and analysisExperience reviewing and editing geotechnical engineering reports and documentsEngineering experience in geotechnical analyses, field investigations, lab testing, soil characterization, slope stability, and seismic analysisExperience in surface water hydrology, hydraulics, and groundwater hydrology in addition to geotechnical experienceWhat We Offer You The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $105,000-$145,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
