Lead Software Engineer, Full StackA growing life sciences technology company is hiring a Lead Software Engineer, Full Stack to join its engineering team in Long Island City, NY. The company builds software that supports scientific research, laboratory workflows, and digital pathology, and this role offers the chance to work on technically challenging products used by researchers and life sciences organizations across the industry.This is an on-site position based in Long Island City, NY. Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the New York City area.Compensation: $120,000 to $180,000 per year, based on experience.What You'll DoThe Lead Software Engineer will work closely with the VP of Engineering, frontend and backend engineers, and product management to develop and enhance the company's software platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with real influence over product direction and engineering strategy, including setting priorities, evaluating technical tradeoffs, improving existing systems, and leading projects from concept through completion.Day to day, this person develops scalable, reliable, testable, and maintainable software across both frontend and backend applications, using a stack that includes React, Material UI, GatsbyJS, Python 3.10+, Django, RESTful APIs, and PostgreSQL, deployed on Google Cloud Platform with Docker, Ansible, CircleCI, and GitHub. This role partners with product managers, customers, and internal stakeholders to evaluate and prioritize enhancements, contributes to software architecture and system design decisions, and evaluates emerging technologies to recommend platform improvements. It also includes designing and maintaining data pipelines that support machine learning and data driven applications, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting support to internal teams, managing automated deployments and web server maintenance, and coordinating the work of external engineering resources. This person provides technical leadership throughout the development lifecycle and takes ownership of complex projects, driving them to completion while improving the scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability of the platform.Required Qualifications5+ years of professional experience with Python and DjangoStrong experience in full stack software development across frontend and backend environmentsExperience with React or a comparable modern frontend frameworkExperience with Google Cloud Platform or another major cloud providerStrong understanding of software architecture, development methodologies, testing, and deploymentDemonstrated technical leadership experience with the ability to guide other engineersExperience coordinating or managing external engineering resourcesStrong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex prioritiesDemonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and consistently deliver resultsExcellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersMust live in or be willing to relocate to the New York City areaMust be willing to work on-site in Long Island City, NYPreferred QualificationsExperience working within an early-stage, startup, or high-growth technology environmentBackground in computer vision, data mining, statistics, machine learning, or related disciplinesExperience in life sciences, healthcare, laboratory technology, digital pathology, or scientific researchExperience building or supporting data-intensive applicationsCompensation and Benefits$120,000 to $180,000 per yearMedical, dental, and vision insurance401(k) planPaid time offTo apply, please submit your resume for consideration.
