Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.SummaryThe Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering (CDE) department is the Design Authority for each of Duke Energy’s six nuclear sites. CDE is responsible for the execution of a fleet portfolio that includes design solutions supporting risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization. The Oconee Nuclear Station (ONS) CDE team manages the capital engineering change portfolio at the ONS site in Seneca, SC. The ONS CDE Electrical Team is seeking to fill the position of Electrical Design Engineer III or Senior Electrical Design Engineer.Responsibilities Develop the scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for engineering design changes that include but are not limited to AC power systems, DC power systems, Large AC motors, Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Protective Relaying, Voltage Regulators, Breakers, etc.Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity. Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team.Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.Conducts engineering and related studies; completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. S. engineering degreeMinimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer1 year of nuclear power plant experiencePreferred QualificationsBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.State registration as a Professional Engineer.Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.Good written and oral communication skills.Proficient in principles of project management.Experience in the utility industry, specifically the nuclear industry.Experience with nuclear industry standard design process.Working level knowledge of ETAP software program.Special RequirementsIn lieu of one year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance.This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.Additional hours expected during scheduled refueling outages.Occasional overnight travel.Working ConditionsTypically, an office environment with some work in the plant to conduct system walkdowns and field support of modification implementation.Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way. Employees are expected to report to their assigned Duke Energy facility as required and directed by their manager, on average 2 full workdays per regular workweek.
