Director of Accounting

Works collaboratively with the CFO to ensure finance capacity and coverage adequate to meet DCCCA's needs are available, leverages strengths of the finance/accounting team members, assigns new work, helps to clarify roles and responsibilities needed to meet organizational goals including adequate cross training of departmental functions and tasks. Help the finance/accounting team members in identification of professional and personal growth opportunities needed to develop and implement their annual goals related to their personal training program to maximize and reach best individual and organizational goals and succession plan needs. Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality. Assists the CFO with evaluation of the finance/accounting structure to seek continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the team. Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment with a focus on resolving conflict. Demonstrates and encourages collaboration across the agency looking to develop relationships that lead to results on sound financial practice. Serve as a member on a Strategic Change Team, a Connections Team, or other team(s) arising from Strategic Planning. Collaborate with the CFO and others on agency financial-based strategic goals. Collaborate with the CFO and the accounting and finance staff to find key areas of improvement in organizational financial performance and collaboratively develop strategies to make progress in those areas of improvement. Participates fully in efforts to develop experiments and action steps to address adaptive challenges facing the organization about financial performance. Planning Assists the CFO with the development of DCCCA's plans and programs. Helps with the development and monitoring of performance measures, financial strategies that support the company's strategic direction, future direction, and initiatives for innovative programs/strategies. Helps with the development and implementation of new business, help with budgets for request for proposal grants and contracts; helps the CFO, CEO and DCCCA management and program staff with drafting of prospective programmatic budgets; and helps with figuring out cost effectiveness of prospective service delivery. Help with merger and acquisition due diligence and implementation. Serves as the primary financial contact to develop and take part in the operating and/or capital budgeting processes; and helps with improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues affecting department budgets. Assists, with the development and take part in the Strategic Improvement, Board Approved (SIBA) budgeting processes; and helps with improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues affecting SIBA budgets. Serves as the primary financial contact for financial changes related to relevant tax code revisions or accounting standard changes. Develop and support systems of internal controls needed to safeguard financial assets of the organization, construct and check reliable control systems; ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies. Serves as the primary financial contact for developing and keeping relevant accounting operational policies and procedures. Serves as the primary financial contact with the accounting firm's audit department. Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations. Remains up to date on nonprofit audit and accounting best practices and state and federal law on nonprofit operations; implements financial and operational best practices to ensure that the company follows legal and regulatory requirements. Serves as the primary financial contact for Federal Clearinghouse reporting, Kansas Charitable Registration and States annual corporation reports. Serves as the primary financial contact with the accounting firm's tax department. Coordinates proper filing of all tax returns. Accounting and Finance/Management and General Participates in key decisions as a member of the Accounting/Finance, Management and General team, the Directors team and supports in-depth relations with all members of the Directors team; and serves on DCCCA internal committees. Attends BOD and BOD committee meetings as requested. Trains/supervises the finance/accounting department staff and works collaboratively with the CFO to raise awareness and knowledge of fiscal management matters with program management and other staff. Oversees the management and coordination of fiscal reporting activities for the organization including financial systems, transaction processes, reviews of journal entries and invoices, financial statements, analysis and documentation, development and monitoring of contract/grant budgets, project/program and grants accounting and reports to funding agencies; ensures that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; and oversees cash monitoring and forecasting, revenue cycle management, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed assets activity. Works with programs, operational, or others to watch financial performance, helps in developing strategies for addressing financial challenges, and works collaboratively to obtain results. Helps with employee benefit plans, as needed, with primary responsibility for the 403(b)-plan audit. Financial Information and Reporting Serves as the primary financial contact to review financial results, watch financial balances, perform financial analytics, and prepare interim financial statements and reports. Serves as the primary contact on federal grant awards and federally funded program's financial reporting. Serves as the primary financial contact with the accounting firms' auditors; coordinates the activities of independent auditors ensuring all Uniform Guidance audit issues are resolved, and all 403(b) compliance issues are met, including the preparation of the annual financial statements and supplementary schedules and information in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal, state, or other required regulatory body requirements. Provide and/or reviews of prompt and correct analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to help the CFO, CEO, DCCCA management, and the BOD in performing their responsibilities. Work collaboratively with accounting/finance, management and general, operations, and program staff for new or replacement Systems with due diligence, planning, implementation, testing, and training. Director's Team (DT) Responsibilities Responsible to coordinate and collaborate the connection between programmatic, operational, and agency strategy, ensuring that strategic actions fit together to make progress on challenges facing the organization. Accountable to recognize, devise, analyze key elements of program, department and agency function that affect other parts of the organization and responsible to initiate communication and decision-making to appropriately address gaps, effects, and concerns proactively. Engages actively in the processes and work of the Directors Team. Education, Experience, and Licensure Requires a bachelor's or master's degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of experience in a relevant management position or role. Requires either certification as a Public or Management Accountant. Requires previous relevant experience with not-for-profit organizations and a detailed understanding of accepted accounting principles, not-for-profit accounting, and federal grant requirements. Requires experience preparing, auditing, analyzing, or evaluating financial statements that present the breadth and level of accounting complexity required by the agency's financial statements and experience in actively supervising one or more people engaged in such activities. Obtain relevant continuing education sufficient to meet organizational needs and licensing requirements. Must have a valid state Driver's License, in force automobile liability insurance, and keep a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets organization's insurability standard as defined by DCCCA policy.
