The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life (OSFL) at Indiana University Bloomington is a foundational pillar of the student experience, with a history dating back to 1845. OSFL oversees one of the nations largest and most influential Greek-letter communities, comprising approximately 10,000 students representing 30% of the undergraduate population. These students are members of 66+ active chapters organized into 4 governing councils
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Serves as a high-level strategic partner and advocate for the Greek experience as a primary driver of student retention, leadership development, and campus spirit.
- Establishes the vision for OSFL to ensure it serves as a flagship model for the IUB 2030 Strategic Plan, specifically regarding transformative student engagement and success.
- Serves as the university's lead consultant and content area expert on the intersection of student social life, high-risk behavior mitigation, and organizational governance.
- Holds the authority to implement internal policies, program parameters, and safety protocols to ensure community health and university compliance.
- Responsible for the Greek Fee (generating $450,000+ annually) and the OSFL Programming Budget, ensuring cost containment and rigorous stewardship of university resources.
- Directs a professional staff including Associate Directors, Assistant Directors, and administrative support; holds authority for hiring, performance management, and professional growth.
- Provides executive oversight of recruitment technology and analytics, specifically Campus Director, to ensure equitable growth and data-informed decision-making for thousands of potential new members.
- Co-leads the Hazing Prevention Coalition and directs campus-wide efforts in prevention and response for student organizations.
- Works in close partnership with the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) and the Office of Student Conduct to address organizational health, student needs, and policy violations.
- Oversees the Standards of Excellence assessment program to inform prevention efforts and share chapter performance data with internal and external stakeholders.
- Serves as the primary university liaison to Inter/National Headquarters and industry governing bodies, including the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC).
- Facilitates engagement with alumni advisors, House Corporation Boards, and community volunteers to ensure the long-term viability of chapter facilities.
- Leads a proactive communication strategy for parents and families, providing transparency and resources to one of the university's most engaged constituent groups.
- Oversees curricular courses taught by OSFL staff and serves as a content area expert on university-wide committees.
- While this position typically follows traditional business hours, the Director serves as a primary point of contact for high-level crisis situations occurring within the Greek community.
- This person does not serve in a regular on-call rotation but is expected to be available to respond to phone calls and emergency situations that occur beyond traditional working hours when high-stakes incidents require executive-level intervention.
- Leads the departmental response to campus disruptions, coordinating with IU Police and General Counsel to ensure a safe and stable environment.
General Responsibilities
- Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define student life methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority student life projects/initiatives.
- Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase student life initiatives.
- Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
- Manages high level assignments and allocation of student life resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale student life projects with a wide audiences in support of academic initiatives.
- Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
- Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry student life standards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
- Works collaboratively with other student life leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
- Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to student life.
- May serve on various campus or cross-functional committees to share student life best practices.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, social work, counseling, or related field
Preferred
- Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 4 years in student life, higher education student affairs, or related field
- 1 year of management experience in relevant field

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
