Advocacy and Outreach Intern

Overview AARP Louisiana Team needs a creative, passionate, results‑driven student to support advocacy and community outreach. The paid internship starts in the Summer of 2026 and may continue through the end of the year, with potential extension. Teams create and execute events and projects that improve people’s lives as they age and build a better future for younger generations. AARP is committed to your growth and learning development. Responsibilities Work with staff and volunteers to manage special projects and events Represent AARP at community events and public meetings Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help promote policy issues on family caregiving, retirement security, and livable communities Research policy issues, draft documents to support advocacy efforts, participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborate on communications tactics, and support various remote and in‑person events Qualifications Current enrollment in a degree program at an accredited college or university as a rising junior, senior, graduate, or postdoctoral student, and remaining academically enrolled during the internship Self‑starter, adaptable, and able to work under tight deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate needs, and prioritize work Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Familiarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time Additional Requirements Regular and reliable job attendance Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships Independent judgment in evaluating options to make sound decisions Ability to work in an office or open‑office environment with moderate noise Must be available to work from AARP’s Louisiana State Office Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds Hybrid Work Environment AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can be done only within the United States and its territories. Compensation and Benefits The hourly rate is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non‑exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
