RN Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary:

The Level 4 Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized nursing care for critically ill or premature newborns in a nationally recognized Level IV center. The nurse delivers advanced treatment for respiratory failure and heart disease, conducts patient assessments, administers medications, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team. This role requires strong clinical expertise, effective communication, and at least two years of relevant nursing experience. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to critically ill or premature neonates in the NICU.
• Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and document clinical information accurately.
• Administer medications and treatments according to prescribed protocols.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.
• Respond to emergencies and provide advanced neonatal resuscitation as needed.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control procedures.
• Participate in unit charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
• Provide education and support to families regarding neonatal care and treatment plans.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State.
• Minimum of two years nursing experience, preferably in NICU or telemetry.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) 8th edition certification.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical care skills.
• Experience with electronic medical record systems, Epic highly desired.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• At least one year of Epic system experience in the NICU or related specialty.
• Previous experience working in a Level IV NICU or similar high-acuity neonatal environment.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, callback, and charge nurse duties as needed.
• Compliance with hospital policies regarding TB skin testing and other health requirements.

Scheduling:

• Rotating shifts including day, evening, and night schedules.
• Shift assignments may include weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations based on unit needs.
