Machinery Set Up and Operator

Job Description

The job

Set up and operate mechanical and hydraulic presses and related shop equipment. Mix of setup and production depending on the day’s work. Install tooling, make first-piece parts, run production, check dimensions, update the job traveler, and keep the job moving safely.

Equipment you will set up and run

Double-action mechanical presses
Double-action hydraulic press
Single-action mechanical presses
Single-action hydraulic press
Circle shear
Trimming lathes
Engine lathe

What you’ll do

Set up presses and related machines for the job at hand
Install, align, and adjust dies and tooling
Run production and monitor quality
Check parts with calipers, micrometers, and height gauges
Follow prints and work instructions
Document and update job travelers so they match current practice
Keep the work area safe and report machine or die problems
Handle material and finished parts as needed

Required

Comfortable with hand tools
Machinery operation experience
Mechanical aptitude
Solid shop math
Read and write English
Able to use calipers, micrometers, and a height gauge
Able to work Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, plus occasional Saturdays 6:00 AM – noon
Able to stand most of the shift and lift up to 100 lbs

Strong plus (not required — we will train the right person)

Die-setting experience (pays more)
Press setup experience
Blueprint / print reading
Forklift
Bilingual Spanish/English

Shop conditions

Heavy production work. Standing most of the day. Lifts up to 100 lbs. Steel-toe shoes and safety glasses required; steel-toe reimbursement provided. Ear plugs available. Lockout/tagout training provided. Shop is loud during production and warmer in summer.
