Funeral Director

Job Overview Our associates celebrate lives. The licensed Funeral Director compassionately facilitates funeral arrangement discussions with deceased next of kin and presides over visitation, funeral, and graveside services in accordance with the family’s wishes, company expectations, and local, state or federal laws. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all mortuary, health, and vital statistics regulations within the funeral establishment(s). Job Responsibilities Arrangements Conference – Receive or initiate calls to deceased next of kin, obtain contact information, discuss needs, schedule appointment, and confirm via email. Remove or transfer deceased with company standards, update removal status in proprietary software. Greets next of kin and escorts to meeting space, initiate and facilitate arrangement conferences, discuss life insurance and benefits, and promote funeral, cemetery, and crematory services and merchandise. Coordinate with Funeral Services Counselor/Advisor to present cemetery options, pricing, and contract completion; review and authorize merchandise and service contract revisions. Direct Services – Confirm authorizations, preside as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, or graveside services, ensuring adherence to company standards. Participate in graveside services as required, verify removal of personal belongings, inspect casket and deceased for presentation, and communicate concerns to preparation staff. Inspect service arrangements against contractual agreements and next‑of‑kin expectations, initiate corrective action as needed. Obtain leads for pre‑need services, engage family to fulfill death‑care requests. Event planning – resource planning and ordering of music, flowers, or catering; produce memory products, obituaries and online memorials; set up and clean event rooms. Assume attendant duties such as parking lot attendant, driver, usher, pallbearer, or courier, and represent location at community or charity events. General duties – work under guidance, learn and apply licences, collaborate with peers, and ensure compliance with regulations. Minimum Requirements Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science – preferred but not required. Current Funeral Director license or Funeral Arranger license in the practicing state. Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record for company vehicles. Industry experience preferred. Cognitive ability: reason, plan, identify problems, learn quickly, apply learning. Process and results oriented; positive attitude and self‑motivation. Ability to build professional business relationships. Professional written and verbal communication; public speaking with influence and consensus. Proficiency in databases, automated processes, MS Office. Work Conditions Work both indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather. Professional business attire required when in contact with families. Frequent sustained sitting or standing up to 6 hours per day; frequent stair climbing. Manual dexterity required; push/pull up to 150 lbs on flat or inclined surfaces. Flexible hours; nighttime and weekend work may be necessary.
