Respiratory Therapist - In House Agency - New Orleans Region

Ochsner Health – 8‑week assignment offering respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. This role monitors and weans oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, draws, analyzes, and reports arterial blood gases and ECGs, and delivers intermittent therapy. It also assists with changing of artificial airways and provides additional services as ordered by a physician, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Location: New Orleans, LA 70116. Education Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (required) Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred) Work Experience Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience (required) Certifications Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist (required) Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist (required) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (required) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required within 90 days of hire (required) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (preferred) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval. Effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Strong interpersonal skills. Job Duties Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures. Review and document all clinical information regarding each patient encounter. Educate patients and healthcare team on procedures and treatment plans. Perform diagnostic procedures. Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, adapting explanations, requesting permissions, and communication style. Perform other related duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Demands Very Heavy Work – Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands exceed Sedentary Work requirements. The role requires frequent walking or standing, pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls, or incorporating a production rate pace that involves constant pushing and pulling of materials even if the weight of those materials is negligible. Exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues is routine. The incumbent works in patient‑care areas and interacts with specimens that may contain communicable diseases, posing occupational risk. There may also be exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
