McLean, Public Defender 13th Judicial Circuit in and for Hillsborough County Florida is seeking a dedicated and motivated attorney to join our Weekend/Holiday Intake Division Team. This part-time position is ideal for an attorney who is passionate about public defense and is looking to contribute to our office's mission by ensuring clients receive representation during non-standard court hours. The attorney will assist our clients with various legal matters, including but not limited to collecting necessary paperwork for all clients appearing on that day’s docket, assisting with First Appearance Court, and assisting with Juvenile Detention Hearings. Key Responsibilities: Represent clients in court during weekends and all court approved holidays. Provide legal counsel and advice to clients on weekends and all court approved holidays. Collaborate with other team members to ensure comprehensive legal representation for clients. Ensure the proper collection of an Affidavit of Indigency Screening and an Invocation of Rights Form for each client appearing on the docket. Ensure the proper collection of contact information and bond factors for each client on the docket. Review all Criminal Report Affidavits and prepare/make any appropriate probable cause arguments. Conduct legal research and remain updated on relevant laws and regulations. Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, colleagues, and court personnel. Ensure all legal and ethical obligations are met in all representations. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Membership in good standing with the Florida Bar. Previous experience in criminal defense or a related field is preferred. Strong communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills. Ability to work independently and make quick, informed decisions under pressure. Commitment to public defense and the mission of the Public Defender's Office.
