Medical Assistant (Credentialed/Certified) – UI Health, Endocrinology The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) provides comprehensive care, education, and research to the people of Illinois and beyond. Location Chicago, IL, USA Compensation $25.26 – $39.08 per hour (commensurate with experience) Duties & Responsibilities Direct Patient Care Tasks Assist nursing/medical staff with preliminary assessment, education, and documentation, including obtaining vital signs, administering basic tests, informing patients of test preparation, obtaining specimens, and collecting blood specimens via venipuncture. Assist with diagnostic/therapeutic procedures appropriate to experience, training, and skill level. Respond to patient inquiries and relay information to appropriate clinical staff. Transport or accompany patients as directed. Document patient medications for medication reconciliation. Administer approved injections per protocol. Indirect Patient Care Tasks Complete requisitions for diagnostic tests/procedures under clinical supervision. Collect and process patient specimens, perform and document point‑of‑care specimen testing. Obtain follow‑up to acquire laboratory/test results and record lab data. Maintain patient care environment in compliance with safety and infection control requirements, including ordering, stocking, monitoring usage of linens, forms, supplies, disposal of used supplies, and sterilization of equipment. Perform and document quality control tests on equipment as appropriate. Clean and sterilize equipment and maintain cleaning logs per policy. Obtain pre‑authorizations and referrals. Clerical Tasks Maintain medical records in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, review and prepare EHR for completeness before patient exam, obtain missing documentation, and document medical visits and related activities. Schedule patient appointments and check patients in and out. Requisition charts/studies, register patients, and activate accounts according to hospital procedures. Record lab data. Assist other staff with office reception and business support functions. Collect cash payments and keep accurate records of collections. Participate in initiatives to promote effective process design, development, and implementation of EHR and other technologies, and in improvement projects and assigned committees. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required High school graduation or equivalent. Valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant by an approved certifying board (American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Center for Competency Testing, National Healthcareer Association). Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification.
