Job Details Position Type : Part Time Education Level : Associate Teacher Permit Salary Range : $21.85 - $22.66 Hourly Travel Percentage : Up to 50% Job Shift : Day Job Category : Education Definition of Classification : Under direct supervision of the Site Supervisor/Center Manager at the location they are assigned, the On Call Substitute Teacher will assist the teaching team in implementing all components of a quality preschool or Infant/Toddler classroom while collaborating effectively with staff and parents. The On Call Substitute Teacher will contribute to the success of the teaching team by adhering to all policies and procedures and working to maintain compliance with all licensing and funding regulations. Description of Duties: General: Represent the agency in a consistently professional manner, always modeling a commitment to the agency’s Mission and Values. Promote and maintain a sense of teamwork between Early Education Services, other CAPC staff, volunteers, Board members, and other individuals relevant to the successful operation of each program. Develop and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with other stakeholders to ensure support of the agency’s vision, mission, and values. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse staff, parents, children, and community members. Maintain compliance and knowledge of all CAPC Policies and Procedures, funding and regulatory rules, and laws that apply to the program contracts and oversight agencies. On Call substitutes may decline no more than 5 job assignments that fall within their documented availability in a 3-month period. On Call substitutes are expected to complete the On Call Substitute Availability Addendum upon hire and as permanent changes in their availability occur. No more than 2 revisions to the addendum can occur in a 3-month period. Program Specific: Uphold all regulations according to Community Care Licensing (Title 22), California Department of Education (Title 5), and Head Start (Performance Standards). Visually supervise children at all times. Regularly complete face-to-name head counts especially during transitions. Monitors, observes, and reports children’s behaviors to the teaching team. Assist in implementing supervision plans that are specific to site and classroom, which include details on teaching staff responsibilities and zoning maps. Assist in an emergency and during emergency drills. Be familiar with emergency procedures and implement the center’s plan for medical and disaster related emergencies. Implement educational curriculum through classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices end early learning standards. Implement individual and group activities that engage children and encourage social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Ensure a healthy classroom environment including appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety of children. Maintain a well-managed classroom and positive environment. Assist in creating and maintaining well-organized interest areas that include blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, art, library, discovery, sand and water, music, and movement, and outdoors. Work with teaching team to ensure that a balance of child and adult-directed activities, independent, and small and large group experiences are available daily. Assist in establishing a consistent daily schedule, predictable routines, and transitions that keep the educational flow moving from one activity to another. Assist in providing opportunities for children to interact and cooperate with one another to promote respect, acceptance, and appreciation of cultural and ethnic diversity, and promote appropriate social skills, competence, and respect for the feelings and rights of others. Assist in providing food service support (serving and cleaning) for meals, snacks, and other activities according to CACFP policies. Implement healthy practices within the classroom environment using universal health precautions including but not limited to washing hands, using appropriate gloves, changing diapers/clothing in a timely manner (if appropriate), and cleaning the classroom. Complete other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. and 12 units of Early Childhood Education (ECE). A valid Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher must be issued within 60 days of hiring date. A basic understanding of child development. Three Infant/Toddler units are required if working with children birth to three; six units of Infant/Toddler Development units is preferred. Experience: At least 1 year of experience working with children ages 0-5. Ability to: Gather and analyze data. Organize and draft reports. Read, understand, interpret, and apply pertinent rules and regulations. Express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a compassionate, non-discriminatory, non-judgmental manner. Establish and maintain working relationships with others. Present oneself professionally. Take initiative but also accept direction and seek guidance appropriately. Bring a high level of energy. Offer flexibility in schedule. Technical Skills: Basic computer skills to include MS Outlook and Internet usage. Use of a copier and scanner. Condition of Employment Background Clearance: Consistent with funding source requirements and licensing entity, employment with the CAPC requires a clearance from the Department of Justice, the FBI and CACI (through submitted fingerprints). Immunizations: In accordance with SB 792, the employee is required to provide proof of immunizations records for Pertussis and Measles (unless a written statement from the employee’s physician that there is a medical reason not to vaccinate the employee), Influenza or signed declination, and a T.B. clearance (assessed every four years). Additionally, ECE staff are required to show proof of vaccination against Hepatitis B (consistent with Cal OSHA regulations) or a signed declination. CPR/First Aid Pediatric Certification: The employee must be CPR/First Aid Pediatric certified within 60 days of hire and must retake every two years from initial training. Mandated Reporter Training: The employee must be taken within 90 days of employment and every year thereafter. Current Auto Insurance: Proof of on-going automobile insurance. Unless otherwise approved by a manager. Funding: Position is dependent on continued funding and is an at-will position. Physical Demands: In order to perform the job duties associated with this position, the employee is regularly required to use his/her hands to finger, handle, grasp objects, tools and/or controls. The ability to walk, sit, stand, crouch, squat, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crawl is necessary. The employee may also be required to reach with hands and arms, repetitively lift from floor to waist and/or move 30 pounds.
