Certified Medical Assistant

The Certified Medical Assistant provides care to patients of all ages in an ambulatory care clinic. This position is essential in maintaining efficient clinic operations and patient flow. The role involves performing administrative duties, data management, and basic clinical tasks. All information is recorded in patients' charts, including medical history. The position works closely with providers, assisting with tasks such as rooming patients, performing Point of Care Testing (POCT), lab draws, and administering immunizations and injections as permitted by scope of practice. Key responsibilities include accurately collecting and documenting information in patient charts and ensuring that patient medication and immunization records are current. Recognizing signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and taking appropriate action is critical. Transporting patients within the facility, setting up equipment and supplies for exams, and preparing patients for procedures are also part of the role. The Certified Medical Assistant performs specimen collection and follows protocols for labeling and transporting specimens. Assisting providers and clinic nurses as needed, and performing basic life support if certified, are also expected. In keeping with preventative health maintenance, the assistant will help identify patients who are overdue for immunizations and schedule appointments accordingly. Collaboration with peers is key to ensure efficient patient flow within the department. Participation in area staff meetings and compliance with dressing code and scheduling guidelines are required. Adhering to safety and risk management responsibilities, including reporting accidents and unsafe conditions, is essential. The role demands good interpersonal and communication skills along with strong organizational skills. Physical demands include standing, walking, using hands for various tasks, and occasionally lifting or pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs. The work environment may include office and healthcare settings, with moderate noise levels. Exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues is a possibility during job-related tasks.
