Deputy Prosecuting Attorney II - Criminal

Open Position: Deputy Prosecuting Attorney II - Criminal Review, prosecute, and manage a felony criminal caseload in Superior or Juvenile Court, representing the State of Washington. Responsibilities include reviewing law enforcement reports, filing charges, developing prosecution strategies, negotiating plea agreements, preparing witnesses, representing the County at all stages of criminal proceedings, advising law enforcement, handling appeals, preparing legal documents, and collaborating with other prosecutors on complex cases. Key Requirements Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school Active Washington State Bar Association membership in good standing Minimum of three years of legal practice, with criminal trial experience preferred In‑depth knowledge of criminal law and procedure, legal research, and trial/appellate processes Strong trial advocacy, negotiation, and case‑management skills Ability to manage high‑pressure, high‑impact cases effectively U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency Valid driver’s license Ability to successfully pass a background check Benefits Subsidized medical insurance for the employee Optional dental, vision, and medical coverage for dependents Washington State retirement pension applicable (plan choices vary) County‑paid life insurance, long‑term disability, Employee Assistance Program, and 12 company‑paid holidays Pay‑range: Step 1 $8,333.33 – Step 2 $8,583.33 per month DOQ Sign‑on bonus: $10,000.00 paid in two installments (50% on first regular pay date after start, 50% after one year of service) Work Environment Full‑time, office and courtroom based with standard weekday hours, frequent deadlines, and occasional in‑county travel.
