Job DescriptionJob Title: Senior Component Design Engineer – TransmissionsWorking Pattern: FulltimeWorking location: Indianapolis, IN As a Senior Component Design Engineer - Transmissions, you will be part of the global Turbomachinery Engineering, Technology & Safety organization. You will develop complex engineering solutions that satisfy cutting-edge aerospace functional and physical requirements and exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. As part of the ET&S Transmissions engineering team, you’ll be responsible for developing, assessing, and delivering high-performance gas turbine rolling element bearings and advanced aerospace seals that push the envelope with performance, life, and efficiency. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to any protected characteristics.What you will be doingWith this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:Develop and deliver new component designs for high-performance gas turbine bearings and seals, which includes (but is not limited to) creating design concepts, optimizing concepts to a final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, performing dimensional analyses, supporting creation of drawings, delivering hardware for validation, and release of hardware to production.Lead investigations of in-service and/or development hardware issues including failure analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), reporting, and documentation. Share findings with the global turbomachinery team in accordance with export control regulations.Present and defend design solutions and technical work to program leadership and other stakeholders.Perform strength and lifing analyses for gas turbine bearings and seals to substantiate suitability for new engine applications and extended performance of existing enginesAdvance the bearing and seal capability through research and technology, education, knowledge management, and consultation.Support the supply chain in procuring hardware including review of supplier production method documentation, assessment of non-conforming hardware, and review of supplier change proposals.Support manufacturing, assembly, service, and aftermarket issues promptly as they arise to keep production on target and the fleet in operationLead investigations of in-service and/or development hardware issues including failure analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), reporting, and documentation. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.Basic Requirements:Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, ORMaster of Science degree in mechanical engineering, ORJD/PhD in Mechanical EngineeringTo be considered for this role, you must be a US CitizenPreferred Requirements:Demonstrated experience in the design, analysis, manufacture and verification of rolling element bearings and advanced aerospace sealing systems, including industry design methods and tools such as Shaberth, ADORE, and ROMAX.Experience with aerospace power transmission components and systems, including gearboxes, rolling element bearings, journal bearings, shafts, and sealsExperience with computational fluid dynamics analysis methods related to air and oil movement.Demonstrated experience in progressing designs/changes through a gated design review process.Expertise in dimensional tolerance stack-ups and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) including thermal effects on tolerancesKnowledge of gas turbine subsystems and components and their function and operationExpertise in the following software applications: Siemens NX, Siemens Teamcenter, Microsoft ExcelWhat we offerWe offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits.
