High School Speech-Language Pathologist: Student Support

Position Title Speech-Language Pathologist Location District Reports To Building Principal, Assistant Principal of Pupil Personnel Services, Director of Special Education Summary & Purpose The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive communication services to high school students, including assessment, direct therapy, and consultation. This role focuses on identifying and treating speech, language, and communication disorders, supporting students in accessing the general education curriculum, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure all Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals are met. Key Responsibilities Provide individual and/or group therapy for students and parents as needed. Provide short-term or long-term casework to address communication barriers to academic success. Act as a liaison for students and parents during the transition process between district schools and/or specialized programs. Consult and collaborate with teachers, social workers, administrators, and psychologists concerning the communication needs of individual students. Serve as a core member of the Student Support Team. Act as a liaison between the school and community agencies, colleges, or universities to coordinate student services. Participate in department meetings and professional projects as directed by the Director of Special Education. Communicate with other districts to coordinate special services for students transferring in or out of the district. Readily maintain availability to students and parents to discuss progress and concerns. Complete all professional duties, including meeting IEP deadlines and state reporting, effectively and promptly. Qualifications Required Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL). Speech-Language Pathologist Endorsement (formerly Type 73). Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Meet all standards required by the Illinois State Board of Education for certification. Preferred Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP) from ASHA. Experience working with high school students with diverse communication needs in inclusive and self-contained settings. Strong skills in providing crisis intervention and social‑emotional support. Salary & Benefits Salary placement is determined according to the applicable IEA Local 218 Collective Bargaining Agreement based on education level and years of experience. Eligible for employee benefits including health, dental, and life insurance, and paid leave, subject to contract provisions.
