Senior Property Adjuster Department: EMA Loss Adjusting Reports To: Claims Manager Status: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt Location: Denver, CO (Field position, not desk) Purpose The Senior Property Adjuster effectively determines and communicates the extent of loss or damage associated with commercial property claims in a variety of business classes. Responsibilities Investigate insurance claims in a variety of settings (retail establishments, office buildings, hospitality, corporate facilities, transportation sites, manufacturing sites, government facilities, schools, clinics, or hospitals). Assess loss or damage from events such as inclement or catastrophic weather, earthquakes, fire, vandalism, or accidents. Assess time‑element and builders’ risk losses as needed. Use knowledge of property and construction, or the specific industry or business, to conduct property inspections and photograph claim sites as necessary to substantiate losses. Interview claimants and experts (architects, engineers, builders, police officers, health‑care practitioners, accountants) to accurately assess loss extent. Coordinate diverse teams of experts including expert witnesses, attorneys, public adjusters, and carrier examiners. Apply understanding of insurance policies and policy interpretation to establish appropriate loss estimates and provide recommendations. Ensure accuracy of information and guard against fraudulent claims. Prepare accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reports and letters to insurance carriers. Follow established policies, procedures, and processes; submit reports and documents on time in accordance with insurer expectations. Use software such as Xactimate to produce accurate estimates. Maintain accurate field notes, journal entries, time and expense records. Submit reimbursement reports per organization and client policies. Apply knowledge of time‑and‑expense and fee‑for‑service procedures per insurer agreement. Follow EM policy and practices, formulate recommendations, and complete evaluations and reports. Prepare and conduct presentations and produce special reports for carriers as required. Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree (preferred). 2–5 years’ experience in commercial property loss adjusting; experience with catastrophe claims. Wide range of experience in various business risk classes (manufacturing, retail, industrial, habitational, hospitality). Knowledge of claims adjudication process and commercial/residential construction industries. Knowledge of property claim law. Active license or ability to obtain a license in assigned state(s). May require evening, overnight, and weekend travel; during catastrophes travel could last two weeks or more. Exposure to extreme heat, cold, precipitation, noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, heights, chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. Work in close quarters, crawl spaces, small rooms, narrow aisles, passageways; requires physical agility and resistance to claustrophobia. Work in high areas such as roofs or scaffolding; requires balance and resistance to acrophobia. Physical Activities and Requirements Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel as needed. Lift up to 50 pounds, including ladder. Require close visual acuity, with or without correction, to prepare reports containing words, symbols, and numerical figures.
